Faculty of Geography Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) collaborate with Wageningen University (WUR) and Research Center for Oceanography – National Research and Innovation Agency (RCO-BRIN)
March 20th 2023 at RCO-BRIN Office, Ancol, Jakarta.
This workshop discussed the correlation and impact of sea turtle grazing activity to the seagrass ecosystems resilience, especially in Derawan Island, East Kamilantan Province, Indonesia.
We also discussing about the challenges and opportunities to map the seagrass ecosystems in Indonesia, with the latest updates of National Seagrass Mapping Project – Towards A National Seagrass Map of Indonesia presented by Dr. Pramaditya Wicaksono
Regarding the main topic of this workshop, we shared experiences to build a capacity of local society hence become citizen scientist with many purposes, such as monitoring the seagrass ecosystem and collecting the seagrass data. We’ve learn lots lessons from SeaSnap program developed by Dr. Marjolijn Christianen (Wageningen University) and Seagrass Spotter program developed by Project Seagrass, presented by Dr. Benjamin Jones (President of the World Seagrass Association and Chief Conservation Officer at Project Seagrass)
