Global Dialogue on Sustainable Ocean Development “The 5th Global Dialogue from The Global Ocean Accounts Partnership”

The Indonesian Seagrass Mapping Partnership has participated in the 5th Global Dialogue event of the Global Ocean Accounts Partnership (GOAP) held on July 1-5, 2024 at The Meru Sanur, Bali, Indonesia. The event enriched our team with new knowledge and skills through various technical trainings and discussions, effectively measure and manage progress towards a sustainable ocean future.

During the event, we hosted a side event:
“The Indonesian Seagrass Mapping Initiative”.

In this side event, we presented the progress of Indonesia’s national seagrass mapping efforts, which also covered the need for capacity building, citizen science, and stakeholder networks for sustainable mapping efforts. The presentation was delivered by:
– Prof. Dr. Pramaditya Wicaksono, M.Sc. (Gadjah Mada University)
– Prof. Dr. Udhi Hernawan, (BRIN)
– Dr. Doddy M. Yuwono, (Geospatial Information Agency)
– Dr. Novi Adi, (Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries)

The discussion highlighted the importance of seagrass ecosystems and the availability of a national seagrass map for various purposes, such as ocean accounting, ecosystem services analysis, understanding biodiversity, baseline mapping, monitoring changes, supporting the update of Indonesia’s NDC on blue carbon, and more.
